Despite being laughed at by the whole world (squirting anyone?), you try making friends (well actually, buying friends) and they still screw you over.

the future of 2007

Like every year around this period, Robert Cringely posts his predictions on IT for the coming year.

Apart from the fact the a lot of these predictions are spot on - which is rare in the IT prediction world, some analysts even manage to make no correct prediction at all for one quarter, let alone a year- he is the kind of guy who's not afraid to look back and evaluate his last years predictions.

With an average prediction rate of around 75% I'd say he does a great job.

Here's one that, IHMO could also happen here in Europe :

10) The year the net crashed (in the USA). Video overwhelms the net and we all learn that the broadband ISPs have been selling us something they can't really deliver.

Seems like I was not the only one thinking of Orson Welles.

Today the be public broadcast service of the French (southern) speaking part of Belgium, RTBF, announced in a fake bulletin that the Flemish (northern) part of Belgium declared independence and split off, as such ending Belgium's existence.
Amongst others, they claimed King Albert II would have sought refuge abroad.

Even CNBC fell for it.

Frequently people do get really upset about other peoples actions, crying in outrage over the injustice done to them in person or to society as a whole.
Next thing we know it appears like everybody clean forgot what happened and the great perpetrator is reintroduced to his or her previous position in society (or even promoted).

While these are the same people that decide this reintroduction is the most normal of things, they still seem to find a way to be amazed about this reintroduction happening at all.
On the one hand they question the lack of punishment or justice served, yet they themselves are the driving factor behind this reintegration.

I guess this is part of what makes people people : being blatantly inconsequent, which means there is still hope for me ...
